How to reset password using cPanel for login issues in Webmail and Microsoft Outlook

Issue and Troubleshooting Steps:


  • User reported facing login issues when attempting to log into her email account via the Webmail interface. After entering their credentials, the webpage hangs and eventually displays an "invalid login" error.
  • Then we reset the user's password and provided them with the new password. 
  • User attempted to log in with the new password but was repeatedly prompted by Microsoft Outlook to enter the username and password.
 
Resolution:
  • To address the repeated prompts issue, we generated a new password again and manually entered it into the webmail interface
  • The password can be reset at cpanel website
  • Go to the Email Accounts

  • Choose user's account and then click Manage

  • Then click on Generate and new password will be provided. Make sure to copy the password and paste it somewhere else to make sure you don't lose the password because you cannot obtain it again later
  • Then scroll down and click Update Email Settings. 

  • Then, user was able to access their account successfully.
  • The repeated prompts in Microsoft Outlook occurred because the password stored on the email server had changed, and the credentials entered into the popup did not match the new password. This mismatch caused the repeated prompts.
 
Preventive Measures: 
To prevent similar issues in the future, users should:
  • When updating passwords, manually enter the new password into all relevant applications (e.g., webmail, Microsoft Outlook) to ensure consistency.
  • If prompted repeatedly for credentials in Microsoft Outlook, ensure the password entered matches the current password set on the email server.
